We're hiring the new interns!

It's...dramatic. People tell each other off, they get mad and avoid them...it's part of being basically taught to love each other. We get so close because of the special training we go through that it's easy to get so comfortable that we act like family and kind of emotionally crap on each other, occasionally.

But I'm so excited. Last summer was the best I've had in years. We spent so much time just having fun together, whether we were working or off for the day. I'd never trade that summer for anything. This year...I'm going to miss the guys. Most of them aren't returning, and they're the people with whom I had the deepest and most personal conversations. But, new people will come!


So I wrote a whole page of Spanish on an active volcano, today. What did YOU do

I'm not terribly worried about the entries. I thought the nuTang entry was a pretty hilarious touch actually. I was just excited to have PROOF OF EXCUSE

Hammocks are cool! I think this is the one I have:

But you know, without the prints. Supposedly it holds 400 pounds (though that depends on the angle you hang it at), it's fairly large, and it has an attached stuff-sack for storage that doubles as a pocket when it's deployed. But there's no bug net or rain fly or anything like that, so you'd have to deal with those separately, and like any hammock you have to have proper insulation in the cold because the wind-chill in a hammock is nasty. I stuffed a sleeping mat in my bag and it worked very well with strong breezes and 32 F temps.

I miss my fellow internssssss! Interning was SO much fun when I was a student. Such a strong sense of camaraderie, it's the BEST.
